Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship to Conclude

Kathmandu – The Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship, the final event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2024/25, will begin Monday at the Gokarna Golf Club. The 72-hole tournament runs from June 16 to 19 and marks the culmination of the domestic professional golf season.
A total of 37 professional golfers will compete for a record purse of NPR 1.6 million, with the champion set to receive NPR 300,000. The second and third-place finishers will take home NPR 185,000 and NPR 125,000, respectively. Players finishing fourth and fifth will earn NPR 105,000 and NPR 92,000, and all professionals finishing within the top 21 will receive a share of the prize fund.
Following the first 36 holes, a cut will determine the top 21 professionals and any amateurs matching the cut score, who will then proceed to the final two rounds. Eighteen of the country’s leading amateur golfers will join the professionals, further intensifying competition.
Among the frontrunners is Niraj Tamang, who leads the season’s earnings list with NPR 742,500 from three victories. He is followed by Toran Shahi with NPR 409,500 and Bhuvan Nagarkoti with NPR 364,500. Both Sukra Bahadur Rai and Subash Tamang—regular contenders on the Professional Golf Tour of India—will also be in the field, adding depth to the competition.
Top-ranked amateur players Sadbhav Acharya and Rahul Bishwakarma, each of whom has won a title this season, are expected to challenge the professionals. Bhutanese amateur Nim Dorji Tamang will also participate, highlighting the event’s regional appeal.
The championship will be followed by a Pro-Am event on Saturday, June 21. The exhibition will feature 25 professionals paired with 100 corporate-level amateurs, offering promising players a valuable platform for exposure and engagement.
Nepal Professional Golfers’ Association (NPGA) President Rabindra Man Shrestha expressed optimism ahead of the tournament.
“This season-ending championship features the biggest prize purse ever offered in a domestic tournament. The players are energized and well-prepared, and we’re looking forward to an exciting conclusion to the season,” said Shrestha. “We remain deeply grateful to Surya Nepal Pvt. Ltd. for their ongoing commitment to the development of golf in Nepal.”
