Rahul Biswakarma Shines in Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship, Bhuvan Nagarkoti Tops Pro Category

Kathmandu – Amateur golfer Rahul Biswakarma clinched a remarkable victory at the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship, capping off the 2024/25 Surya Nepal Golf Tour in style. The four-day tournament, held at Gokarna Golf Club, concluded with Biswakarma finishing two strokes ahead of Nepal’s top-ranked professional, Bhuvan Nagarkoti.
Rahul carded an impressive 5-under 67 in the final round to complete the tournament at 21-under 267, securing his second title of the season. His first came at the tour’s opening event, the Surya Nepal Central Open. The 72-hole championship saw the amateur standout take control early in the final round, building a comfortable lead with a sizzling front nine performance, highlighted by five birdies. Despite a double bogey on the 14th, Rahul maintained his composure and cruised to victory.
Meanwhile, Bhuvan Nagarkoti delivered another strong showing with a second consecutive round of 8-under 64, finishing at 19-under 269. Though narrowly missing out on the overall title, Nagarkoti emerged as the top professional and received a prize of Rs 300,000.
Nepal’s No 1 amateur, Sadbhav Acharya, took third place overall with a total score of 18-under 270. He finished second in the amateur category after an impressive comeback on the back nine that included an eagle and three birdies.
Defending champion Subash Tamang ended the event in fourth place at 15-under 273, finishing as the second-best pro. He earned Rs 185,000 for his efforts.
Bhutanese golfer Nim Dorji Tamang put in a solid performance to finish fifth overall and third among amateurs at 14-under 274, while Niraj Tamang ended sixth with a total of 10-under 278. Niraj, who secured three titles this season, topped the Order of Merit with total earnings of Rs 867,500, confirming his status as Nepal’s No 1 professional golfer for the season.
The rest of the top performers included Dinesh Prajapati (9-under, Rs 105,000), Sukra Bahadur Rai (8-under, Rs 92,000), Sanjay Lama (3-under, Rs 84,000), and amateur Wangchen Dhondup, who tied for ninth with Sanjay.
A total of 55 golfers (37 professionals and 18 amateurs) competed in the tournament, which offered a prize purse of Rs 1.6 million. Cash prizes were distributed among the top 21 professionals. Surya Nepal Pvt presented the awards. Ltd Managing Director Ravi Kumar Rayavaram and PGA Nepal President Rabindra Man Shrestha.
The tour will conclude with a Pro-Am event on June 21, where 30 professionals will be paired with 120 corporate-level amateurs in a friendly yet competitive round aimed at promoting golf and fostering new talent.
