Rahul Biswakarma Surges Ahead in Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship

Kathmandu – Amateur golfer Rahul Biswakarma has taken a remarkable lead after the third round of the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship, currently underway at Gokarna Golf Club. The tournament, which marks the grand finale of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2024/25, is heading into an intense final round with top contenders battling it out.
Rahul delivered an impressive 6-under 66 in Wednesday’s third round, bringing his overall score to 16-under 200. With this performance, he now sits one shot clear of defending champion and top pro Subash Tamang, who returned a flawless 5-under 67 for a total of 15-under 201.
Nepal’s No. 1 amateur, Sadbhav Acharya, maintained his strong form with a 5-under 67. His total of 13-under 203 places him firmly in third, still within striking distance of the lead.
Two other prominent names, Niraj Tamang and leading professional Bhuvan Nagarkoti, are tied in fourth position with a total of 11-under 205. While Niraj posted a solid 68, it was Bhuvan who made headlines with the best score of the day, a brilliant 8-under 64, making a strong late charge up the leaderboard.
Among international participants, Bhutanese amateur Nim Dorji Tamang has performed consistently, carding a 2-under 70 to sit sixth overall with a total of 8-under 208. He also holds third place among amateur competitors.
Meanwhile, Dinesh Prajapati occupies the seventh spot with a total of 7-under 209 following his 4-under round. Three professionals, Sukra Bahadur Rai, Sanjay Lama, and Rabi Khadka, are locked in eighth place at 3-under 213 after delivering rounds of 69, 70, and 71, respectively.
Rahul’s bogey-free front nine was highlighted by birdies on five holes, giving him a 5-under 31 at the turn. Despite a bogey on the 11th, he managed birdies on the 15th and 18th to keep momentum on his side. Subash, showing his consistency from the Indian professional circuit, picked up birdies on five holes across both nines in a clean round.
Sadbhav also stayed in contention with four birdies and a resilient finish. Despite a double bogey on the 11th, he immediately recovered with an eagle on the 12th and capped his round with a birdie on the final hole.
The championship features 37 professionals and 18 amateurs battling through 72 holes. With a total purse of Rs 1.6 million, it stands as the most lucrative event of the season. The winner will take home Rs 300,000, followed by Rs 185,000 for the runner-up. The third to fifth positions carry prizes of Rs 125,000, Rs 105,000, and Rs 92,000, respectively. Pros finishing in the top 21 will also receive payouts.
A Pro-Am event will follow on June 21, welcoming 25 professionals and 100 amateur golfers from the corporate sector. This special segment is aimed at fostering talent and offering competitive experience in a dynamic format.
As the final round approaches, all eyes are on whether Rahul can make history as an amateur or if the seasoned pros will stage a comeback.
