Seres’s sales increased by double-digits with new luxury EV lineups

Kathmandu – Electric vehicle maker Seres marked a notable sales recovery in April 2025, reporting a 12.99% year-on-year increase in its new energy vehicle (NEV) sales, signaling renewed momentum after a slow first quarter. The Chongqing-based automaker sold 31,488 NEVs during the month, its first annual growth figure of the year, thanks largely to the launch of new models in its premium lineup.
Seres, which has been steadily building its reputation in China’s competitive NEV market, has benefited from a strategic collaboration with tech giant Huawei. The company’s flagship model, the Seres M9, has played a pivotal role in attracting former owners of traditional luxury cars from brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi. The M9 has topped the luxury vehicle sales chart in the 500,000-yuan (approximately USD 69,435) segment for 11 consecutive months, bolstered by Huawei’s intelligent driving technologies and the HarmonyOS smart cockpit.
While Seres had a strong 2024, selling 426,885 NEVs, a remarkable 182.84% increase year-on-year, the first quarter of 2025 proved challenging. Sales dropped from 12,483 units in January to 5,236 in March, mainly due to a model transition phase. However, the company bounced back in April with 13,149 units sold, marking the first full month of deliveries for the upgraded M9 2025 Edition and the debut of the M8 model.
The M8, officially launched on April 16, slots between the M7 and M9 in Seres’s product range. Priced between 359,800 and 449,800 yuan, it offers many of the high-end features found in the M9, such as LiDAR technology and Huawei’s HarmonyOS cockpit, at a more accessible price point, nearly 100,000 yuan cheaper. The market response has been swift and enthusiastic, with the M8 receiving over 70,000 pre-orders within weeks of its launch.
Despite the promising start, Seres has yet to release detailed delivery figures for the M8, leaving analysts cautious about its overall contribution to the company’s 2025 performance. High pre-order volumes may not necessarily translate to actual sales due to potential cancellations, production limitations, or inventory adjustments.
Seres’s rebound in April aligns with a broader surge in China’s NEV market. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, 1.226 million NEVs were sold nationwide in April, up 44.2% compared to the same period last year. NEVs made up 47.3% of China’s total vehicle sales of 2.59 million for the month, underscoring the sector’s growing dominance.
While maintaining the pace set in 2024 may prove challenging, Seres’s refreshed model lineup, strategic pricing, and tech-forward offerings have positioned it for potential sustained growth in the world’s largest EV market.
