Nepal Starts World’s First Academic Mountaineering Course

October 31, 2017: Tribhuvan University (TU) is starting mountaineering course as academic programme from this year.

Currently, mountain climbing courses worldwide are provided only as training but not as academic subject.

The courses will start from November this year.

Nepal Mountain College (NMC) affiliated to TU is starting Bachelors of Mountaineering Study (BMS).

Started as an academic course for the first time in the world, international students have also shown interest in the course.

Students securing more than 45 percent in intermediate level in any faculty are eligible to join the course. The four year course is divided into eight semesters. Currently, the college has fixed the cost of course at Rs 600,000.
