Changan Opens New EV Plant in Thailand with 200,000 Unit Annual Capacity

Kathmandu – Changan Automobile, China’s pioneering automotive group, has officially commenced vehicle production at its first international New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturing facility in Rayong, Thailand. This strategic launch marks a pivotal milestone in the company’s global “Vast Ocean Plan,” reflecting Changan’s shift from being a China-centric exporter to a global automotive ecosystem builder.
The Rayong facility, designed with cutting-edge technology, integrates manufacturing, research and development, and a robust supply chain network. The plant will produce Changan’s new generation of eco-friendly and smart electric vehicles, serving as a global export hub for markets across Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Africa, Central and South America, and Eurasia.
Initially designed for an annual production of 100,000 units, the facility’s capacity is set to double to 200,000 units by 2027. This expansion highlights Changan’s ambitious long-term commitment to international markets and sustainability.
Since its brand launch in Thailand in 2023, Changan has sold over 14,000 units, securing a spot among the top four NEV brands in the country. The newly opened plant was inaugurated with the production of the right-hand-drive Deepal S05, which is also expected to be introduced in Nepal soon. This milestone has raised Changan’s total global vehicle production to 28.59 million units.
Spanning 392,000 square meters, the Rayong plant features five dedicated workshops for welding, painting, assembly, engine, and battery production. The facility is built with sustainability in mind, using solar energy, natural daylight, and water recycling systems. Its advanced automation and adaptive systems are designed to meet global standards and market demands.
The plant will manufacture vehicles under Changan’s key brands—Changan, Deepal, and Avatr—further expanding the company’s international portfolio. Since entering the Thai market, Changan has launched seven models, including bestsellers like the Deepal S07 and Avatr 11.
Changan Chairman Zhu Huarong emphasized that the Rayong plant will play a vital role in establishing a localized industrial ecosystem and represents a major step in Changan’s global growth strategy. By combining Thai operational strengths with Chinese innovation, Changan aims to drive sustainable economic growth and elevate its role in the global electric vehicle market.
