Palanchowk Bhagawati

Palanchowk Bhagawati is one of the most beautiful and most important Goddess of Nepal. Palanchowk Bhagwati Temple is situated in Sathighar Bhagawati of Panchkhal municipality of Kavrepalanchok District in Nepal. The temple houses a 3 feet long idol of Goddess Bhagawati carved in black stone.

Palanchowk Bhagwati temple is said to have been constructed during the reign of King Mānadeva. It is said that the Buchakot people dreamt that Goddes Bhagawati asked them to take her to the north of the place. While they were taking her to the north with great respect, they spent a night at the present temple area. The next morning they could not lift the idol off the place so they built the temple there.
 

It is 58 km east from Kathmandu, a two hours mountainous drive on the Araniko Highway. It is assumed that the Palanchowk Bhagawati,Naxal Bhagawati (in Kathmandu) and Shobha Bhagawati (in Kathmandu) are sisters and Palanchowk Bhagawati is the eldest amongst them.

Temple of Kalika, sister of Bhagawati, lies near (about 200 meters) to the temple of Bhagawati.

Many pilgrims visit the temple especially on Tuesday and Saturday and animal sacrificing are also offered to the Goddess.
