Chinese Ambassador Meets Minister Dahal to Discuss Rasuwagadhi Road and Border Bridge Reconstruction

Kathmandu – Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, on Thursday. The meeting, held at the Ministry, focused on the reconstruction of the Syafrubesi–Rasuwagadhi road and the border bridge, both of which were severely damaged by recent floods.
During the meeting, the Chinese side expressed interest in supporting the rebuilding efforts. Ambassador Chen conveyed China’s commitment to constructing a temporary bridge at the damaged site as soon as possible to restore connectivity between the two countries.
In addition to the Rasuwagadhi road section, discussions also covered other key infrastructure projects being implemented with Chinese assistance. These included the Tokha–Chhahare tunnel, the Hilsa–Simikot road, and the Khandbari–Kimathanka road. Ambassador Chen also informed that work on the second phase of the Kathmandu Ring Road expansion would commence soon.
Following the meeting, Minister Dahal expressed gratitude for China’s ongoing support in Nepal’s infrastructure development. He also expressed hope that Nepal-China cooperation would continue to deepen in the coming days.
Keshav Kumar Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry, stated that efforts are underway to complete the construction of a new bridge at the border before the Dashain festival. He described the discussion between the Minister and senior officials from the Ministry and Department of Roads as highly productive.
Due to flood damage, movement through the vital Rasuwagadhi border point has been severely disrupted. Minister Dahal has been actively seeking solutions to restore operations along the affected route. Director General of the Department of Roads, Dr. Bijaya Kumar Jaisi, and other high-level officials were also present during the meeting.
