Vivah Panchami: Celebrating the divine union of Ram and Sita in Janakpur
Today is Vivah Panchami, and Janakpur, the capital of Madhesh Pradesh in Nepal, is bustling with grand celebrations. This Hindu festival commemorates the divine marriage of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. Believed to have occurred on the fifth day of the waxing moon in the month of Mangsir during the Treta Yug, this festival holds deep cultural and spiritual significance.
Thousands of devotees from Nepal and India, including Ayodhya, gather at the iconic Janaki Temple, a stunning blend of Mughal and Rajput architecture, to honor this auspicious occasion. Festivities included colorful processions, traditional dances, and a re-enactment of the sacred wedding, culminating in rituals at the Vivah Mandap.
Janakpur, regarded as Sita’s birthplace and ancient Mithila’s capital, continues to uphold this timeless tradition, symbolizing the virtues of love, devotion, and family.
