Third Tihar Flora Expo Ongoing at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu
Kathmandu – The much-awaited Third Tihar Flora Expo 2082 officially opened its doors at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu on October 14, drawing plant enthusiasts, nursery owners, and flower lovers from across the country. Organized by the Nursery Entrepreneurs Association of Nepal with support from the Floriculture Development Centre and the Department of Plant Resources, the expo promises a vibrant showcase of Nepal’s rich floriculture and nursery industry just ahead of the festive Tihar season.
The five-day expo features an impressive display of over 700 varieties of flowers, ornamental plants, potted species, and fruit plants. Popular nurseries, including Jyoti Nursery, have brought their unique collections, offering both decorative and agricultural plants. Festival favorites such as Makhamali and Sayapatri flowers are on full display, adding a colorful charm to the event while highlighting Nepal’s floricultural diversity.
In addition to flowers, the expo provides a platform for agroforestry products, agricultural tools, fertilizers, seeds, and modern farming technologies. Visitors can explore 70 stalls presenting a mix of traditional and innovative horticultural products. Event coordinator and Vice President of the Association, Laxmi Maharjan, emphasized that the expo not only celebrates the festive spirit of Tihar but also supports small-scale nursery businesses and promotes sustainable gardening practices across Nepal.
Organizers expect the expo to attract more than 35,000 visitors over its duration, with projected business transactions exceeding Rs. 7 million. Entry fees are set at Rs. 100 per person for general visitors, Rs. 50 for senior citizens, and free for students, making it accessible for a wide range of audiences.
The Tihar Flora Expo serves as a vital platform for Nepal’s growing horticulture sector, offering opportunities for nurseries and farmers to showcase their products, share knowledge, and engage directly with consumers. Beyond the economic benefits, the event encourages urban gardening, home landscaping, and environmental awareness among visitors.
With its mix of stunning floral displays, educational exhibits, and commercial stalls, the Third Tihar Flora Expo has quickly become a must-visit attraction in Kathmandu’s festival calendar. As the city gears up to celebrate Tihar, the expo adds both beauty and business opportunities, reflecting the deep cultural connection between Nepalis and their rich natural heritage.
