Government Warns Against Unauthorized Fundraising in Prime Minister’s Name
The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has issued a stern warning following reports that some individuals or groups across various districts and regions have been soliciting donations, funds, or financial assistance in the name of the Honorable Prime Minister and this office. According to an official press release, such activities are unauthorized and misleading, and the public is urged not to fall prey to these fraudulent schemes.
The press release clarifies that neither the Prime Minister nor the OPMCM has authorized any person or organization to collect donations for projects, social initiatives, or any other purpose. Citizens are explicitly requested to reject any such requests and refrain from providing financial support to individuals claiming to represent the Prime Minister’s office.
“This office has not granted permission for any collection of funds or support in the Prime Minister’s name,” the release stated. “We strongly advise the public to remain vigilant and to fully reject any attempts to solicit contributions under false pretenses.”
The OPMCM further urged that any instances of unauthorized fundraising, or attempts to encourage such activities, should be immediately reported to the nearest local administrative or police office. Reports can also be submitted directly to the OPMCM. Additionally, Nepalese citizens living abroad who encounter similar unauthorized activities are requested to inform the nearest Nepali diplomatic mission or notify this office promptly.
The office emphasized that individuals involved in these deceptive fundraising activities will be subject to legal action. By raising public awareness, the government aims to prevent exploitation of citizens’ trust and ensure that official initiatives remain transparent and credible.
The press release, issued by the OPMCM, comes at a time when social initiatives and charitable projects are gaining momentum across Nepal. Authorities believe that clarifying the official stance will help protect both the integrity of government programs and the financial security of citizens.
This measure reflects the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and safeguarding the public from fraudulent activities exploiting the Prime Minister’s name.
